Development of tools for intrapartum care
The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking offers for the Company or Institution to support priority countries in improving the quality of basic intrapartum care to reduce maternal mortality due to direct obstetric cause.
BACKGROUND
Based on the recent global estimation of maternal mortality, in most WHO regions including the Western Pacific Region the trend of reduction of maternal mortality has been stagnant in the last decade (MMR 44/100 000; the highest MMR is 218 while the lowest is 3 per 100 000 live births in the WPR countries).
To support the priority countries and accelerate the progress of SDGs, there is an urging demand to develop these tools for further evidence-based planning and continuous improvement in intrapartum care. There is a need to strengthen routine care in normal delivery to detect and manage abnormal courses early to avoid the necessity of EmOC. Member States in the region have requested WHO to support developing quality assessment tools and coaching modules on intrapartum care focusing on basic care.
